Jacque wants incentive for finding welfare fraud
A state lawmaker is unveiling a plan to fight welfare fraud, with hopes of saving taxpayers money.
Rep. Andre Jacque of De Pere says police and sheriff's departments don't aggressively pursue welfare fraud, because it takes a lot of time, and the recovered money goes back to the federal government. He says local governments should be reimbursed for their efforts.
He says Brown County has been a leader in uncovering fraud and abuse. He says the sheriff's department has recovered $1.5 million so far, and it would be nice if some of that money went back to the county.
The Republican says he started circulating the bill today, looking for co-sponsors.
