Tuesday night the Wisconsin Senate passed a hit-and-run measure that would require drivers who hit something to get out and investigate what they hit, according to state Rep. Andre Jacque (R-De Pere).
The bill already passed the State Assembly, and will now go to Gov. Walker’s office. Jacque is confident that Walker will sign the bill into law.
The bill was inspired by Jeff and Colleen Kennedy, whose son was killed by a hit-and-run driver.
It’s been five years since their son, John was killed. They’ve spent nearly three years working on the Assembly bill, which recently passed in the hopes of making Wisconsin’s roads safer.
“We’d like something good to have come from what happened to our son,” said John’s wife Colleen. “So if this one, small thing can make a difference in somebody else’s lives, it’s worth it.”
