Food stamp bill brought up by local lawmakers
GREEN BAY, Wis. - Two northeastern Wisconsin Republican lawmakers are working on a bill that they hope will encourage counties to investigate fraud in the federal food stamps program.
Rep. Andre Jacque of De Pere says that by enforcing federal rules, they should be able to keep up to 20 percent of what would be saved. He says that would save taxpayers money overall.
Jacque says Brown County has been a leader in recent years in targeting fraud with FoodShare benefits.
Sen. Rob Cowles of Allouez is also working on the proposal.
