GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) Days after undercover videos are released showing Planned Parenthood officials discussing the cost of providing aborted fetal tissue for research, Wisconsin lawmakers act.
Representative Andre Jacque says he'd pursue his bills even without the release of the videos. But Planned Parenthood says the Republican is just carrying out yet another personal attack.
"Don't low ball it, tell me what you really want, $75 a specimen?"
According to Rep. Andre Jacque, this undercover video by an anti-abortion group exposes the well hid secret that Planned Parenthood benefits when it donates fetal tissue for research.
"The undercover videos have laid bare exactly what happens in those back rooms," said Rep. Jacque.
While federal law makes it is illegal to sell fetal tissue for profit, Planned Parenthood says the discussion in that video taken in California was about the legal transfer of donated tissue and collecting only enough money to cover costs. Jacque says it's not that clear-cut.
"It's really using the the term of reimbursement loosely to arrive at the market place for aborted children's organs," said Jacque.
Representative Jacque is proposing a bill to prevent the sale, donation and use of aborted fetuses in WI, along with two other bills that would withhold millions of dollars in federal funding from Planned Parenthood.
"There is no particular experiment or type of tissue that requires there to be an abortion involved," Jacque said.
