CIRCULATION AND INTERLIBRARY LOAN POLICIES

Patron registration

To obtain a library card, patrons need to show a state-issued photo ID card or school ID card. Every borrower is issued a library card that includes the user ID number. See the “Online Services” section for LRBCAT features available to registered patrons.

Loan periods

Placing holds

Library staff will place a hold (reserve) on currently checked out materials. Priority is given to legislative, executive, or judicial offices. Items are held for 7 working days after notice of availability is sent. Holds may be placed in person, online through LRBCAT, or by phone (266-7040).

Renewals

One renewal for the original loan period by phone, through LRBCAT, or in person is allowed. Subsequent renewals on the same item must be made in person and will be approved on a case-by-case basis. Renewal is not granted if a hold has been placed on the item.

Overdue materials

Users are expected to return materials upon receipt of an overdue notice. Lost or damaged materials Users are encouraged to replace any lost or damaged item. Recall of materials Although borrowing privileges are available to the general public, priority is given to legislators, legislative staff, and public officials. Therefore, it may be necessary to request the early return of an item. Your cooperation is appreciated.

Interlibrary loan

Legislators, their staff, and legislative service agency staffs may make interlibrary loan requests through the Theobald Legislative Library. Public and student patrons are encouraged to use their public or school libraries. The Theobald Legislative Library fills loan requests from other libraries on a case-by-case basis.

Confidentiality

By law, the LRB is strictly nonpartisan and is required to hold all drafting and reference requests confidential. In addition, sec.43.30, Wisconsin Statutes, protects the confidentiality of registration information, research interests, and requests for information.

Photocopying

For non-government personnel, the first 10 copies are free with a fee of 10 cents per page over 10. Microfiche reader/printers are available at 10 cents per page. A film copy of microfiche or transfer to a CD-ROM is also available for a nominal fee.
