- Presented by Mr.James C. Humes, Ryals Chair for
Language and Leadership, Colorado State University-Pueblo:
A speechwriter for five U.S. Presidents and author of 30 books,
Mr. Humes will base his presentation on Prime Minister Winston
Churchill's original notes given to Mr. Humes by the Prime
Minister's grandson. Mr. Humes has served in the
Pennsylvania House of Representatives and worked in the U. S.
State Department. He is a past president of the Philadelphia
Bar Association. In 1994, he was decorated by Queen Elizabeth II
for his biographies of Churchill and Shakespeare. This
presentation is underwritten by the National Conference of State
Legislatures.
- Legislating Under the Lens, held January 8, 2007
- Proceedings of the legislature are scheduled to be
broadcast on cable television later this year. Minnesota has
conducted its legislative business in this environment for
several years. This session will recount the experiences of
"legislating under the lens" and discuss things to remember and
consider.
- Presented by Mr.Steve Kelley, Former Minnesota State
Senator: While a member of the legislature,
Mr. Kelley was Senate Education Committee Chair and active in the
National Conference of State Legislatures. Mr.Kelley is an
attorney. His undergraduate degree is from William College and
he graduated from Columbia University Law School. He was first
elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives in 1992 and
elected to the Senate since 1996. He was a recent unsuccessful
candidate for Minnesota Attorney General.
