Achieve Your Potential

What is a typical audit? Where will my career take me? As someone who has demonstrated a desire to achieve, we expect that you may ask these questions.

Each audit is conducted by a team of auditors or analysts. While teams work closely to ensure that all relevant issues are identified, each staff person is responsible for a key aspect of the audit or a specific report section. Our financial audit work is also considered qualifying experience for CPA certification.

Leadership opportunities, such as supervisory work, are available as you gain experience. We emphasize professional development by providing:
  • financial assistance for professional certifications, such as CPA exam preparation;
  • membership in professional organizations, such as the National Legislative Program Evaluation Society;
  • internal training on a wide variety of topics critical to auditing and evaluation; and
  • sufficient training opportunities to fulfill CPA continuing education requirements.
You will also benefit from a relationship with a mentor—a more experienced staff member—during your first months on the job.

While we hope you will enjoy a long career with the Audit Bureau, many staff use their valuable experience to move on to management positions within government or private industry.
NEW STAFF TYPICALLY:
  • interview agency staff
  • document key processes and concepts
  • analyze data
  • test controls and account balances
  • write memos and drafts of the final report
