Internships with the Legislative Audit Bureau

Get a head start on your career by participating in an internship with the Legislative Audit Bureau. As a financial auditor intern, you will be provided challenging audit assignments, join an audit team, participate in our audit process, and acquire important career skills.

Assignments

Interns typically work on a variety of assignments, such as:
  • a financial statement audit of a state agency, such as the Wisconsin Lottery or State Fair Park;
  • auditing compliance with federal grant requirements; and
  • testing controls over cash handling at the Department of Administration.

Qualifications

Our ideal candidate for an intern position is working toward a degree in accounting and shows a high level of enthusiasm for learning. Sound written and oral communication skills, solid grades, good interpersonal skills, and the ability to analyze data and draw conclusions are also highly desirable.

We interview for interns at several UW campuses and private colleges during the fall semester. If you are interested in internship opportunities with the Legislative Audit Bureau, please contact your career services office or submit a cover letter, resume, and college transcripts to:

An Intern’s Perspective “My internship at LAB was a valuable experience. I was able to work on multiple audits and gain an understanding of the different kinds of audits that LAB conducts. During the audits, I was able to perform testing, conduct interviews and complete workpapers. Additionally, the people at LAB made my internship experience that much better. Not only were they very knowledgeable and willing to answer any question I had, but they were also fun to be around. I would highly recommend an internship with LAB.”
