Friends and Neighbors,

Madison is an amazing city to live in!

I'm reminded of this as I spent much of Mother's Day outside. especially after such a long, cold winter. My husband and four boys were helpful around the house and even cooked dinner for me.

Each day, I feel extremely lucky being given the honor to represent the community that I was born and raised in and that I am raising my own children in. I am grateful for the beautiful spring weather to breath fresh air, let the kids run, and enjoy the natural world.

The weather also means that I am able to get out more to hear from my constituents. I look forward to the summer concerts, backyard barbecue's, and parades. I know that I cannot do my job without hearing from the people I represent. Thank you for being engaged, involved, and active in the community we love to call home.

Forward,

Dane County Job Center Visit
I enjoyed touring the Dane County Job Center last week. I toured previously as a County Board Supervisor but learn new things each time I visit. It is so important to provide services for our job seekers so that they can benefit from the freedoms imparted by the good paying jobs they desire and need to take care of their families and break the cycle of poverty.

The Dane County Job Center is a partnership of government agencies and community-based organizations with a common goal:

'To make our community a better place to live by improving job opportunities through economic support, training and education.'

UW Health Facility Tour

On April 9, 2013, UW Health broke ground on a new hospital, outpatient care and wellness facility on the east side of Madison.

I recently took a hard hat tour of the University Hospitals American Center project to see the progress being made. The unique new health and wellness facility is expected to open in August of 2015. In the meantime Findorff and their great staff is working hard on the job site.

826th Ordinance Company Deployment

Good luck and safe returns to the 826th Ordinance Company who are deploying overseas today. I wish them well and look forward to welcoming them home when their mission is completed.

Our soldiers at home and abroad bring us the freedom and liberty we enjoy here in Wisconsin and all across the country. I applaud their efforts and their commitment to excellence each day.

Emerging Leaders and BILLD

I'm absolutely honored to have been nominated and accepted into the prestigious Emerging Leaders Program where I will spend an intensive week with a national group of bipartisan policy makers from around the country. I'm thrilled and excited to broaden my leadership skills through this national program.

I was also accepted into the BILLD program put on by the Bowhay Institute. The Bowhay Institute is designed for Midwestern legislators in their first four years of legislative service. I am excited to join the next generation of legislative leaders who have benefited from this program.

BILLD's goals are aimed at helping legislators gain leadership skills, to better understand key public policies, and network with a bi-partisan group of legislators. I look forward to this opportunity.

Sennett Middle School Career Fair

I really enjoyed the visiting the Sennett Middle School career fair. The hands on experience I got with the students was wonderful. I was able to talk with students about my profession, as well as their hopes for the future. It is awe-inspiring to see young citizens so excited about their future careers. The maturity among these students was impressive.

The future certainly looks bright.

Stat of the Week

The number of lawmakers leaving their seats in both chambers of the state Legislature has climbed to numbers not seen in decades.

So far, there are seven members of the state Senate and 22 members of the Assembly who have announced they will not seek reelection this fall. It’s been 32 years since the Assembly had so many vacancies and almost six decades since the Senate saw as much turnover. The majority of the members giving up their seats are leaving elected office entirely, although some are seeking other positions in state government.

At the Capitol

Last week at the Wisconsin State Capitol we honored our fallen heroes, their amazing families, as well as their brothers and sisters in law endorsement with the Law Endorsement Memorial Ceremony.

I wish their families peace, and I honor what they have given to our community.

Wisconsin Cannabis Project

I am excited about the work being done by a newly formed group known as the Wisconsin Cannabis Project. They, like me, are committed to seeing marijuana legalization become a reality in Wisconsin. I look forward to reintroducing this important legislation next session.

I encourage everyone to go and 'like' the Wisconsin Cannabis Project's Facebook page by clicking HERE or on the picture below.

Stroke Awareness Month

I would like to thank the American Heart Association and a number of survivors who came to the Capitol and shared important information on how to spot a stroke F.A.S.T. and the importance of lowering our risks as part of Stroke Awareness Month.

F.A.S.T stands for Face, Arms, Speech and Time. If one side of someone’s face is drooping, if they are unable to lift their arms, or is having trouble speaking without slurred or strange speech it is time to act quickly.
