Legal Scrutiny of Fed Health Care Law Should be Authorized

There has been much discussion in every state, including Wisconsin, over the constitutionality of federal health care legislation recently signed into law by President Obama. The sweeping health care law includes numerous mandates and penalties, including the requirement that everyone must purchase health insurance or face a fine from one of the 16,000 newly hired IRS agents. Over a dozen state attorneys general, both Republicans and Democrats, have entered into a lawsuit to challenge the constitutionality of the measure

In order for Wisconsin to join or file its own lawsuit, Governor Doyle or one house of the Legislature must grant Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen the authorization. In a letter to legislative leadership, Van Hollen requested permission to contest the constitutionality of forcing American citizens to buy a product against their will and indicated that Wisconsin has a legal basis for such a challenge. He questioned whether the mandate requiring each person to purchase insurance passes constitutional muster and stated that it likely encroaches upon Wisconsin’s sovereignty.

2010 Art & Craft Fair
Guides Now Available

Each year, art and craft fairs are held throughout Wisconsin. They provide an opportunity for visitors to see different parts of our state while supporting the local community and the arts.

The 2010 Wisconsin Art & Craft Fairs Directory is now available. The booklet, published by the Wisconsin Arts Board, is a comprehensive guide of nearly 250 art and craft fairs throughout the state. The guide offers listings of fairs by date, city and county. Each entry details the variety of products offered at the fair and provides information on other community events and entertainment occurring in tandem with the exhibition. The directory also offers application fee and eligibility information for art and craft exhibitors interested in participating in the fairs.

These directories are available free of charge by contacting Senator Scott Fitzgerald’s office at (608) 266-5660 or via email by clicking on the Art & Craft Fair icon on his website: www.senatorfitzgerald.com. The directory is also available online through the Wisconsin Art Board’s website: www.artsboard.wisconsin.gov.
