My Reaction to the Bucks Arena

The Assembly approved the Milwaukee Bucks arena funding plan.

Tuesday July 28th, the legislation to provide public financing for a new Milwaukee Bucks arena was voted on and passed by the Assembly. There were no changes made to the bill before the 52-34 vote.

For the past several months, I’ve heard from many in my district who strongly object to using their tax dollars to build a new arena for the Milwaukee Bucks. With questionable benefits for the residents of my district, I voted against this plan that will use state tax dollars to finance a project in Milwaukee.

As an independent voice for our community in the state legislature, I will continue to work hard to represent your views in our state Capitol. The input I received from many of you was crucial in helping me reaching this decision, and I believe that my vote best reflects the views of our district.

What's Been Happening

Recently, I've had the pleasure attending several local events, touring local businesses, as well as meeting with people in Madison.

I was able to attend and take part in the Lafayette County and Green County fairs, those are always fun events.  It was great to see and talk with everybody there.

Touring local businesses is always a great opportunity to be out in the community, getting a close look at area businesses, and meeting staff.  On Monday I toured Greenco Industries with CEO Jean Zweifel, a non-profit organization that provides day services and work services for 110 adults and teenagers with disabilities and residential services for 20 disabled adults in both Green and Lafayette Counties.

With their Plant Manager, Kurt Koller, and GM & VP of Operations, Erik Huschitt, I also toured Badger Ethanol, a dry-mill ethanol production facility in Monroe, Wisconsin.  At their facility, the produce over 57 million gallons of ethanol per year.

It was the Youth Leadership Forum recently, and I was able to sit down with one of their delegates and his older brother at the Capitol.  Youth leadership forum is a week long program of high school students with disabilities across the state of Wisconsin to learn about leadership and how to be more involved in their communities. We discussed issues that are important to them. The YLF teaches the youth how to be more involved with their elected officials.  Great to meet you David and Andrew!

Earlier today I was able to attend the 100 year celebration of Mound City Bank doing business.  It was great to see everybody there.  Pictured below is the proclamation we were able to put together for them.

If you ever find yourself in Madison or your group plans to visit the State Capitol, I hope that you can stop by my office, 304 North. It is a beautiful facility full of history. I'd definitely encourage you to take a tour someday - the Capitol and surrounding area would make a great day trip for the family.
