Wisconin's Business Climate Increases

Recently the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel printed an article that contained the following excerpts:

Wisconsin has dramatically improved its ability to incubate businesses, moving up 29th among all states from 43rd in 2010, according to an annual competitiveness measure released by the Beacon Hill Institute at Suffolk University in Boston.

Regarding the state's business incubation ranking, Wisconsin scored particularly well in two new categories: the potential costs of tort liability and the education-adjusted cost of labor.

Wildfire danger rises in spring

Spring is the most dangerous time for wildfires in Wisconsin.

The National Weather Service has issued a fire watch for most of the state.  An extremely dry air mass and gusty winds are working together to form what the meteorologists called “critical fire conditions."

Even before this week's weather conditions, the Department of Natural Resources had rated the Wisconsin fire danger as high, or very high in Northwestern Wisconsin.

The mild winter has combined with snow totals below normal and record warmth last month to leave grass and brush very dry in all parts of the state. That is the main reason the threat of fire is so high.  Make sure you check with your local municipality before burning brush this weekend.

Last E-Update till November

As your Representative for the 47th District, the future 42nd, one of my greatest honors has been to keep you informed of the issues before the state legislature.  From humble beginnings, we have grown our e-update circulation list and I appreciate every response I receive.  Your contributions and responses continue to shape Wisconsin politics and how this state will move “Forward.”  I want to thank all of you for taking time out of your day to participate in our democracy.

Beginning April 15th I must temporarily suspend sending these updates to members of my e-update distribution list.  Under state law, any legislator who is also a candidate for elective office is prohibited from sending out more than 50 pieces of substantially identical materials from their state office after nomination papers have been taken out and up to Election Day in November.  Traditionally, items such as maps, Blue Books, printed newsletters, and so on, fall under that prohibition.  However, it has been determined that transmitting legislative updates via e-mail to more than 50 individuals would also be prohibited.  As my distribution list has more than 50 recipients, this prohibition does apply.

In closing, I would like to express my sincere appreciation to all readers.  Please continue to contact me at the office with issues dealing with our state government.  If you see me at a parade, pancake breakfast, or community event, I welcome the opportunity to speak with you.  Again, thank you for your continued interest in my legislative updates and I hope you and your family have an enjoyable summer.

Even with the close of the 2011-12 legislative session I still want to continue to hear from you about what the priorities of the legislature should be for the next session.  Also, continue to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have with state government.  My job is to serve my constituents.

As before I will continue to work across the aisle to find common ground and move legislation forward.  Please do not hesitate to contact my office at (608) 266-3404, or Rep.Ripp@legis.wisconsin.gov

I want to remind everyone that my door is always open and you can always visit me at my Madison office in the Capitol (223 North).   Please do not hesitate to contact me with any issues you maybe facing.  You can call my office at 608-266-3404 or email me at Rep.Ripp@legis.wisconsin.gov.  I look forward to hearing from you.
