Walker Discusses Budget Objectives

Governor Walker spoke at the Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce Business Conference to discuss his budget objectives.....

  1. Creating Jobs  The next legislative session will focus on creating new jobs and to also look at current laws that may be inhibiting job growth and job creation.

  2. Workforce Development  Lack of a skilled workforce is the most common complaint from companies. Wisconsin must help people learn the skills needed to meet the requirements of in-demand jobs. By fixing the skills gap, more people can get good-paying jobs and help our economy grow.

  3. Education  Simply putting more money in general school aids will not help correct specific problems.  The solution is to focus funding on categorical aids and  award schools for good performance.  Then help to manage failing schools, so they produce better results.

  4. Reforming Government  Wisconsin has shown over the past two years that it is reforming the way government works to “create a positive environment” where companies want to expand.

  5. Infrastructure  Every industry depends on roads, railways, and harbors. The challenge is funding. Previous administrations used the money that was supposed to be for long-term transportation projects to balance their budgets. A robust public debate to decide how best to repair the damage done to the transportation fund will be healthy for Wisconsin.
