Emma Moore - Grade 2 - Green Lake School

Mckala Nitzke - Grade 12 - Berlin High School

Ian Sandberg - Grade 1 - Green Lake School

Leif Selthofner - Grade 4 - Green Lake School

Jean McCulloch Harper is a retired Art Educator and past President of Wisconsin Art Education Association, she wanted us to share some background on Youth Art Month. It is so important that the students and their teachers get the recognition they deserve for their talents and hard work. We want to spread the word to as many people as possible to become more aware of the need for educating and nurturing all the talents and creativity of our children. The Youth Art Month student artwork display is put on by the art teaching professionals in both private and public schools throughout the state who are members of the Wisconsin Art Education Association.  They demonstrate their dedication and professionalism by providing their students with the experience of presenting their artwork in a juried setting with their peers from around their region first and then on to the State Capitol Rotunda.

Thank you Jean for passing along the information to us to share with our readers.

Rep. Ballweg is holding "Clown Fish Acrylic" by Andrea Chier, and next to that is "Aubrey Ebony" by Barraza Haide, both from Berlin High School.

Redistricting

State Representative Joan Ballweg (R-Markesan) commented on the recent court decision regarding the redistricting legislation passed by the full legislature in 2011.

“After sending out the newsletter this month, we have received numerous phone calls about redistricting. Every 10 years, the legislature must draw new legislative and congressional districts to account for population shifts,” states Ballweg.

New additions to the 41st Assembly district will take place after the November election, consisting of part of Adams County, Marquette County and the entire city of Wisconsin Dells, the village of Lake Delton, and the city of Berlin.

Areas moving out of the 41st District will be parts of Waushara County, the towns of Manchester and Kingston in Green Lake County and the towns of Metomen and Alto in Fond du Lac County.

A panel of three federal judges ruled over the validity of the redistricting maps, deciding only two Assembly Districts on Milwaukee’s south side will be changed and will not affect surrounding districts.  The judges will redraw election maps for Assembly Districts 8 and 9 and the remaining 97 districts will be retained.

Any questions about redistricting can be referred to my office at (888)534-0041 or e-mail Rep.Ballweg@legis.wi.gov. You may also want to check out this link; legis.wisconsin.gov/ltsb/redistricting

Adams Friendship School Visits the Capitol

It's always such a pleasure to meet with school groups from our area at the State Capitol.  This past week, 4th and 5th graders from Adams- Friendship visited the Capitol.  As you can see from the picture above, I heard from many inquisitive students and I hope they had a great time.  If you're planning a visit to the State Capitol, please let my office know!

Unclaimed Property - a press release from our State Treasurer

Newspapers across Wisconsin will begin printing names on April 1st of those with unclaimed property.

Starting Sunday April 1st and lasting until June 23rd, Wisconsin residents in every county can look for their names in their paper of record to see if the State Treasurer’s office is holding unclaimed property.

"These are the new names we received at the end of last year from companies across the state and country," State Treasurer Kurt Schuller said. "We print the new names every year, as required by state law, to make it easier for people to find cash they didn’t even know was lost."

Companies turned over $39,160,521 to the State Treasury in 2011. This money belongs to all the people who will have their names printed in the papers over the next 3 months. However, the Office of State Treasurer has been holding unclaimed property since the early 1970’s. We have $412,226,584 that we want to give back to the rightful owners.

"Last year, my office returned more than $33 million," Treasurer Schuller said. "But even though we broke the record, we then took in another $39 million. There is a lot of unclaimed money out there!"

Anyone can search for missing money on our website www.wismissingmoney.com 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Online, you will find the new names that will be printed in the papers this year as well as all the old names dating back to the start of the unclaimed property statutes.

To learn more about unclaimed property, financial education, the economy and its effect on your daily life and saving for college, please visit their blog, www.wistatetreasury.wordpress.com.
