Youth Art Month 2012

Youth Art Month is an annual observance that emphasizes the value of art education for all children. Artwork from students in Wisconsin is displayed in the Capitol Rotunda from March 18th through the 30th. Students from the 41st District that had art displayed are:

Haide Barraza - Grade 9 - Berlin High School

Andrea Chier - Grade 9 - Berlin High School

Amelia Dobbratz - Grade 4 - Rock River Intermediate

Tabitha Eastberg - Grade 12 - Berlin High School

Joshua Eidenshink - Grade 8 - Brandon School

Christina Hoppa - Grade 12 - Berlin High School

David Meza - Grade 9 - Berlin High School

Emma Moore - Grade 2 - Green Lake School

Mckala Nitzke - Grade 12 - Berlin High School

Ian Sandberg - Grade 1 - Green Lake School

Leif Selthofner - Grade 4 - Green Lake School

 

Representative Ballweg is holding art named "African Tears" by Tabitha Eastberg, and above that is "Radial Kaleidoscope" by Christina Hoppa, both artists are seniors at Berlin High School.

8th Annual Joan Ballweg Leadership Scholarship

Guidance counselor’s at all eleven high schools in the 41st Assembly district have informational packets for students to apply for the 8th Annual Joan Ballweg Leadership Scholarship.

Eligibility is open to all graduating seniors continuing their education in a 2-year Technical college program or a 4-year Baccalaureate degree program.  Students must be graduating with at least a 3.0 average on a 4.0 point scale, and must reside in the district. If you are unsure whether or not you reside in the 41st Assembly District, you can visit the legislature’s website at www.legis.state.wi.us.  Then click on the link “Who Represents Me?” and type in your address to determine your home district.

“This scholarship is to encourage and reward students that take a role in leadership in their high school,” states Ballweg. “My hope is they will continue their leadership roles in college and with their future employers.”

Deadline for applications is April 16, 2012.  The packets are available at area high school guidance offices, you can also contact my office for a scholarship application packet toll free at (888)534 0041 or e-mail us at rep.ballweg@legis.wi.gov.

Building Commission Approves Projects

On March 21st, 2012 the State of Wisconsin Building Commission approved several key projects across the state including, but not limited to:

 

· Approval of the design report and authority to construct Phase II of the Student Athlete Performance Center project at UW-Madison.

· Authority to construct a new well at the Southern Wisconsin Center in Union Grove

· Authority to construct a new roofing project at Kettle Moraine Correctional Institution in Plymouth.

 

The Building Commission is chaired by Governor Walker and includes the following members:

 

· Vice Chair State Representative Dean Kaufert;

· State Senator Robert Cowles;

· State Senator Dale Schultz;

· State Senator Fred Risser;

· State Representative Joan Ballweg;

· State Representative Gordon Hintz; and

· Citizen member Bob Brandherm;

Listening Sessions

State Representative Joan Ballweg has held various listening sessions around the district, if you weren't able to attend, listed below are the remaining sessions.

5:30 pm – 6:30 pm      Berlin Public Library, 121 West Park Ave, Berlin
