100th Day in Session

Tuesday April 12th marked the 100th day of the current legislative session.

After just 100 days in office, the Assembly has has passed a number of innovative and pro-active measures to help increase opportunities for job creation across the state.

A package of bills were passed in January that provided tax credits for job-creators that relocate to Wisconsin, tax relief for small businesses, tax-deductions for consumers with health savings accounts, and created a new authority to support statewide economic development.

Last Tuesday, we marked our 100th day in office by passing additional jobs bills that will help us continue our economic turnaround and put even more people back to work.

In addition to the Beloit DOZ bill (see related article), the “Rural Jobs Act” brings a wildly successful program that has already created thousands of jobs across Wisconsin to rural areas statewide. The Dairy and Livestock Farm Investment Tax Credits will result in investment and expansion throughout one of Wisconsin’s most vital industries.

Unemployment numbers are improving, but we have a long way to go. Still, the results so far are promising, and it is encouraging that most of the jobs bills have passed in a bipartisan manner.

In the weeks and months ahead, I will continue to support policies and initiatives to get Wisconsin people working again. I also remain committed to making tough decisions to balance our budget without raising taxes.

If our first 100 days in office are any indication of what lies ahead, it is going to be an exciting and successful spring and summer in Wisconsin.

I will be holding a listening session on the 2011-2013 biennial budget next week Tuesday, April 19, for all who have any questions or input.
