Three Beloit Schools Earn Wisconsin School of Recognition Award

Three elementary schools in Beloit - Burdge, Converse and Gaston were recently honored with the Wisconsin School of Recognition Award from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.  A special ceremony was held at the Capitol on October 12th and each school received a plaque and $5,000 to use on any school-related activity.   Gaston also received a special flag for receiving the award five years in a row.

Health Care Coverage Tax Relief Bill Passes Assembly and Senate

The Assembly and Senate passed Senate Bill 203 which provides for tax exempt treatment of the value of health care coverage for adult dependent children. Wisconsin is the only state in the nation that has not adopted legislation to align state law with federal law on this issue.  This was a hidden tax that many employees and employers were unaware of, and would have been a burden to Wisconsin families and businesses at the end of the year.

Assembly Passes Rep. Loudenbeck's Interstate Victim Protection Bill

I am pleased to report that the Assembly passed my bill to protect victims who are being abused, harassed, or threatened from out of state.

This bill recognizes that we live in a highly mobile, high-tech society, and sometimes our laws need to be updated to reflect reality. Current law often prevents victims in Wisconsin from obtaining restraining orders against individuals who are abusing, threatening or harassing them from other states or undisclosed locations.

The bill does not create a new law or a new penalty, it simply clarifies when the court has personal jurisdiction by empowering judges with the authority to consider restraining order applications based on facts and allowing victims to get their day in court.
