Introducing Rep. Knudson’s e-Update Series

I am excited to welcome 30th Assembly District constituents to the first issue of my e-Update series! While I hope to see you often in and around the district, this newsletter is a great opportunity to keep you informed of the action taking place at the State Capitol. My e-Update will include information on what is going on in the Wisconsin State Legislature as well as specific updates on my efforts as your State Representative during the 2011-2012 Assembly Session.

It has been an exciting month since being officially sworn in. I am looking forward to producing legislation to get Wisconsin working again and to explore improvement in the areas of my committee assignments. I will serve as Vice-Chair on the Colleges and Universities Committee and as a member of the Education Committee and the Urban and Local Affairs Committee.

Please forward this e-mail to anyone who might be interested, or have them contact me at Rep.Knudson@legis.wi.gov to get added to my e-Update list.

Governor Walker Moves Forward With “Wisconsin is Open for Business”

I support Governor Walker’s “Wisconsin is Open for Business” platform to help the private sector create 250,000 jobs by the end of his first term. This goal will be reached with the introduction of several Special Session bills to reorganize the Department of Commerce. These bills include the requirement of a 2/3 majority vote to increase taxes in the future, a tax credit for small businesses, common sense tort reform to curb frivolous lawsuits, and the addition of $25 million to the Department of Commerce economic development grant program.

On January 18, some of you may have seen Gov. Walker’s “Wisconsin is Open for Business” sign unveiling ceremony at the Hudson Welcome Center. The Governor’s objective is to attract businesses from border-states, which puts the spotlight on St. Croix County to compete for Twin Cities based businesses.

In addition to legislation to promote job creation, I will be co-sponsoring two other bills planned for this session; a Voter ID bill to prevent voter fraud and an auto insurance bill to repeal provisions in the last state budget that increased auto insurance rates up to 33%.
