Wisconsin’s Spring Election is just around the corner! Voters are encouraged to make a plan and head to the polls on Tuesday April 3rd to fill a state Supreme Court seat, as well as many local and school board positions. To find out more about voting hours, poll locations or registration status, individuals can visit: myvote.wi.gov

In addition to the Spring Election on Tuesday, voters in the 1st Senate District and 42nd Assembly District will have a special election on June 12, 2018 to fill two legislative seats that had been left vacant by Gov. Walker since 2017. While Republicans had tried to block these elections and prevent over 200,000 voters from going to the polls, intense public backlash and three separate court rulings ultimately forced Gov. Walker to obey the law and grant voters their constitutional right to representation.

Information on the SD1 and AD42 special elections can be found on the Elections Commission website here.

This Week in the Senate

Senate Session
The Senate concluded its regular floor period for the legislative session. There are no other scheduled floor sessions at this time.

Senate Committees

Senate Elections and Utilities
The committee held a Public Hearing on Assembly Bill 947, which would modify current law providing that special election to fill a vacant Senate or Assembly seat may not be held after the spring election in the year which a regular election is held to fill that seat. In an attempt to maintain their grip on power, Gov. Walker and Legislative Republicans sought to change laws to silence voters.

There is nothing more fundamental to our democracy than the right to vote, despite Gov. Walker’s best attempts to block elections and deny 200,000 voters their constitutional right to representation. The Republican-led efforts to prevent court-ordered special elections from being held is the height of corruption and the public should not accept this abuse of power.
