Assembly honors UW-Whitewater football team

(Madison, WI) – The state Assembly passed a resolution Tuesday authored by Representative Evan Wynn (R – Whitewater) to honor and commend the UW-Whitewater football team on winning their third national championship in a row, and fourth in seven years.  Representatives from UW-Whitewater were on hand to receive the commendation, including five players, Football Operations Director Luke Groth, Head Coach Lance Leipold, Athletic Director Paul Plinske, and Chancellor Richard Telfer.

“As an alumnus of UW-Whitewater, I couldn’t be more proud of the Warhawks football team,” said Wynn.  “Their ‘three-peat’ championship is a natural result of all the talent and hard work exhibited by every member of the team, coaches, and staff.”

The resolution specifically named three players on the team that were essential to their success at the team 7th-straight appearance at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division 3 national championship game, the Stagg Bowl.

Defensive lineman and Whitewater High School graduate Loussaint Minett forced a fumble on opposing team’s one-yard line, setting up Levell Coppage, also named in the resolution, for the only Whitewater touchdown of the game.  Senior punter Kris Rosholt is also honored in the resolution for his six outstanding punts in the game which repeatedly pinned the opposing team deep within their own territory, giving up Whitewater’s defensive unit the advantage.

Lance Leipold, the head coach, was also honored in the resolution for leading the Warhawks to a 45-game winning streak, the longest active streak in the NCAA.

Rep. Wynn represents the 43rd Assembly District, which covers portions of Rock, Jefferson, Dane and Walworth counties.
