Rep. Tittl: Statement on Extending BadgerCare and HIRSP
Madison – Rep. Paul Tittl (R-Manitowoc) made
the following comments in response to the State Assembly Special Session vote today
to extend the current BadgerCare and HIRSP programs for 90 days as people
transition to the federal health insurance exchange.
“Weeks ago, people contacted me expressing their frustration and
concern about their inability to sign up under the Healthcare.gov website. At
that time, I contacted the Office of the Commissioner of Insurance and the
Governor to express those concerns and see what we in Wisconsin could do to
address this problem.
"I was pleased to be in today’s Special Session, and I
wholeheartedly support the decision to extend healthcare coverage for a
vulnerable portion of Wisconsin residents.
"The Special session vote continues the status quo for three
months and gives Wisconsin residents time to enroll in the Affordable Care Act.
"I am further excited about covering every person at or below the
poverty level and eliminating the waiting list on April 1st.
The bill passed by a 64-32 vote and is expected to be passed by
the Senate and approved the Governor.
