Governor Walker Signs Justice for Survivor’s Act into Law
Madison: The Justice for Survivor’s Act was officially signed into law Thursday, April
12. Assembly Bill 552 was introduced by Representative Jim Steineke (R- Kaukauna)
and eliminates the statute of limitations on first degree sexual assault, first degree
attempted sexual assault and first and second degree attempted homicide. Prior to this bill
the statute of limitations for these crimes was only six years.
“I think both victims and law enforcement officials are excited for this bill to be made
law. Law enforcement officers are able to enforce the law regardless of how much time
has passed and it gives victims the peace of mind to know that the perpetrators of these
heinous crimes are not able to escape punishment” said Rep. Steineke.
The bill signing ceremony took place at the Golden House in Green Bay.
