Economist with Department of Revenue finds that Wisconsin has added
thousands of new jobs
Madison: Late last week the Department of Revenue posted a video to YouTube.com
featuring the lecture of Chief Economist for DOR, John Koskinen presenting to the
Association of Government Accountants. In his presentation Mr. Koskinen describes the
three approaches to analyzing the state’s economy. Of the three ways he discusses, two of
them show Wisconsin has added thousands of jobs in the past year. Representative Jim
Steineke (R-Kaukauna) issued the following statement:
“The Bureau of Labor and Statistics reported the one outlier of numbers that presumed
Wisconsin has lost jobs over the past year. However, their numbers do not add up when
compared to lower unemployment claims in Wisconsin, GPR Revenue Collections
running ahead of estimates and are not supported by at least two other BLS measures.
“It is sad when a federal government agency chooses to highlight negative numbers
rather than reporting numbers that coincide with the reports from other agencies that
Wisconsin has added thousands of new jobs. Other BLS measurements estimate those job
increases to be between 18,500 and 35,600 new jobs in the past year” said Rep. Jim
Steineke.
