Tony Staskunas was born and raised in West Allis. He and his wife, Elizabeth, have two sons and one daughter. Rep. Staskunas graduated UW-Milwaukee cum laude in 1983, and earned a J.D. from UW-Madison in 1986. Tony is a practicing attorney, as well as a State Representative.
 
Prior to his election to the Assembly, Rep. Staskunas was an Alderman on the West Allis City Council from 1988 through 1997. As a member of the City Council, he chaired the West Allis Board of Health and the License and Health Committee.

Rep. Staskunas is currently serving his seventh term in the Wisconsin State Assembly. During his tenure he has received many awards including: Freshman of the Session Award for Service to Small and Independent Business 1998; West Allis Chamber of Commerce Citation for Distinguished Service Award 1999; West Allis/West Milwaukee Alliance Against Drugs Outstanding Community Involvement Award; 2000 West Allis/West Milwaukee Education Association Friend of Education Award; 2000 and 2002 WMC Working for Wisconsin Award; Wisconsin Right to Life Leadership Award 2000; the Wisconsin PTA Friend of Education Award 2004; 2006 Friend of Wisconsin Dairy Award; as well as the 2008 MADD Public Policy Award.

During the 2009-2010 legislative session, Rep. Staskunas served as the Assembly Speaker Pro Tempore.  As the Speaker Pro Tempore, Rep. Staskunas oversaw debate on the floor of the Assembly to ensure that order was maintained and that the rules of the body were followed.  In addition, his committee assignments include the Committee on Energy and Utilities, Committee on Judiciary and Ethics, and Committee on Ways and Means.  He also serves on the Board of Directors for the State Fair Park and the Wisconsin Exposition Center.
