MADISON – State Representative Christine Sinicki (D-Milwaukee) was awarded the Wisconsin AMVETS’ 2011 State Legislative Advocacy Award in a small ceremony Thursday with AMVETS State Commander Gene Wagner and their State Legislative Chair Tim Thiers. The award recognizes Rep. Sinicki’s long advocacy record for veterans in the Legislature, and in particular, her widely supported bill last session which Gov. Walker included in the new omnibus veterans’ law (https://docs.legis.wisconsin.gov/2011/related/acts/36).

The new law implements her quest to create geographic representation on the Board of Veterans Affairs, made necessary by past regional over-representation on the Board.  Sinicki’s successful legislative work to require this geographic diversity resulted recently in a DVA Board member finally being appointed from Milwaukee County for the first time in a decade.

“I’m honored and humbled by this award,” said Rep. Sinicki. “Because I personally haven’t served, I’ve always seen it as my duty to make sure the state of Wisconsin remembers what it owes our veterans, who have sacrificed so much for us.”

The AMVETS award is Rep. Sinicki’s second veterans’ commendation this year, the first coming from the National State Women Veteran Coordinators Association (NASWVC).  They recognized Rep. Sinicki’s successful legislation last session that created a new women’s veterans license plate in Wisconsin.

Rep. Sinicki has served three terms on the Assembly Committee on Veterans Affairs.
