Rep. Jon Richards and Sen. Jon Erpenbach:
Study shows Wisconsin better off with health care reform
Walker administration ignores benefits to hundreds of
thousands of Wisconsinites

Rep. Jon Richards (D-Milwaukee) and Sen. Jon Erpenbach (D-Middleton) issued the following statement today after Gov. Walker's administration released a report on how health care reform will impact Wisconsin.  The report was prepared by MIT Professor Jonathan Gruber and Gorman Actuarial.

“We are disappointed that the Walker administration chose to highlight only a few statistics from Professor Gruber’s study to advance their political agenda and support the status quo.  Key benefits of health care reform cited in the study that the administration glossed over today in a briefing for lawmakers include:

  •  340,000 Wisconsin residents will get insurance who didn’t have it before.
  • Out-of-pocket health care expenses decrease for everyone who buys an individual insurance plan.
  • Many Wisconsinites will receive better quality health coverage that can’t be taken away because of a preexisting condition.
Having worked on health care reform in a bipartisan way for several years, we look forward to working with anyone who wants to create an insurance exchange in Wisconsin that reduces costs and improves health care quality in Wisconsin.”
