FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Madison – Assembly Committee on Forestry Chairman Jeff Mursau (R-Crivitz) made the following statement on Arbor Day, Friday April 27th:
“On behalf of all Wisconsin Citizens in general and the Assembly Committee on Forestry in particular, I thank the foresters, arborists, loggers and forest landowners of Wisconsin for helping restore, protect and manage our state and private timberlands.”
“Over a century ago, the cutover devastated many of our natural resources. The professional and pragmatic approach our citizens demanded and implemented since then that has brought us back from the brink to our current condition of abundance and sustainability for generations to come.”
Mursau also cautioned of threats facing Wisconsin forests in the 21st century:
“Our forests are endangered by invasive and exotic species, fragmentation, fire, disease and declines in the forest products economy,” Mursau said. “Our state, our citizens and our businesses will need to collaborate together to help ensure the long-term viability and sustainability to overcome these challenges.”
“The Assembly Committee on Forestry and I remain committed to facilitate such collaboration in the Wisconsin State Legislature.”
