Rep. Molepske: Wisconsin needs to come together to get Wisconsin working again

STEVENS POINT – Following Governor Walker’s State of the State address, Representative Louis J. Molepske Jr. released the following statement:

“Tonight Governor Walker claimed that his agenda is working for our state. However, his rhetoric does not match the realities of daily life in for many Wisconsinites. During his first year in office, Governor Walker failed to meet the challenges facing our state. His supposed ‘working’ policies have led to Wisconsin becoming the only state in the nation to lose jobs every month for the past six months. We are now 2nd in the nation in education cuts and 3rd in the nation in cuts to our university system. Governor Walker’s harmful, divisive policies have caused a dramatic decline in Wisconsin’s well-being.

“It is no secret that 2011 was an unprecedented year in Wisconsin. The hyperpartisan environment caused by Governor Walker’s agenda bogged down positive legislation and motivated civic involvement like never before. It is clear by Governor Walker’s rhetoric that he is out of touch with the people of Wisconsin, who want our state to get back to work and back to working together. We need to come together to work for the people of Wisconsin, not continue down the path of divisive politics and policies that suit the governor’s very narrow interests.

“What is very clear tonight is we need to focus on to retooling and retraining thousands of unemployed Wisconsinites by working closely with our technical colleges. We need to fix our entitlement programs so that our most vulnerable citizens will have the resources they desperately need. For our troops coming home, we need to focus on making sure that their sacrifice is respected by creating opportunities for good, familysupporting jobs. We must invest more in Wisconsin’s top-notch higher education institutions like University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and Mid-State Technical College. These should be our priorities as we move forward. This will get Wisconsin working again.”
