Bill aims to attract jobs by securing money for training
A bill proposed by state Rep. Louis Molepske Jr., D-Stevens Point, would use state funds to offer worker training programs as an incentive to attract businesses to Wisconsin, or encourage current companies to expand.
Molepske's bill would direct the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp. to work with the Wisconsin Technical College System to develop training programs to teach workers the skills needed for new jobs.
The goal of the Quick Start program is to create another incentive the state can use to try to lure businesses to Wisconsin, while at the same time helping the unemployed get back to work.
"WEDC can identify those employees who have or want the skills (the company needs), put together the training, and have the workers trained by the time the company opens," Molepske said. "Businesses can move or expand knowing when the plant gates open, those workers will be there."
