Jorgensen’s “Art at the Capitol” Program Now Featuring Watercolors from Lake Mills Painter and Local Art Writer
MADISON – State Representative Andy Jorgensen (D-Fort Atkinson) today proudly announced his Capitol office will display the work from J. Carolyn Liedtke, a Lake Mills painter who some may also know as the writer of the local newspaper feature Art Scene. Liedtke’s watercolor paintings are being showcased as part of Jorgensen’s ongoing “Art at the Capitol” program.
“Just as I represent my neighbors in Jefferson and Dane Counties, I believe my office should represent our area. For many years, I’ve displayed business products and schoolkids’ work, but with such a vibrant art community, I felt it was only right to also showcase the talents and creativity of the 37th Assembly District,” said Rep. Jorgensen. “I’m very pleased to share Carolyn Liedtke’s art with visitors to our State Capitol, and thank her for participating in this program.”
Jorgensen notes that Liedtke chose three pieces to showcase in his office in the State Capitol: “Lonely Pelican,” “Below Zero,” and “Rock Creek Winter, with Foxes.” All three are watercolors in which she focuses on Wisconsin’s natural environment and wildlife. Most of her work is done on location, in fields and along streams throughout Jefferson Country.
“My artwork is meaningful to me, in part, because it showcases the places I love,” said Liedtke. “Wisconsin is home to so many colorful creatures and beautiful landscapes. I find endless inspiration in the natural world around us.”
Liedtke studied fine arts at the School of the Art Institute and the American Academy of Art in Chicago, later developing an interest in and love of watercolors while attending workshops at Oakton Community College.
Liedtke is a founding member and past president of the Illinois Watercolor Society. She has been a resident of Wisconsin since 2000, and is currently affiliated with the Wisconsin Regional Arts Association, Wisconsin Society of Arts, Sciences and Letters, and the Arts Alliance of Greater Lake Mills. Liedtke also has conducted art workshops through Madison Area Technical College, and writes a weekly column for local newspapers called Art Scene.
“Carolyn is very talented – and clearly passionate about her artwork. But, she also invests a great deal of effort in promoting the creative efforts of others,” said Jorgensen. “I commend her both for her own artistic accomplishments, and for devoting so much of her time to shine a spotlight on other artists in our area.”
To see Liedtke’s work, Jorgensen invites you to visit his office, Room 320 West of the State Capitol, or to check out
