Walker celebrates the trampling of rights
The governor signs away workers’ rights
3/11/11
MADISON – In response to Governor Walker’s ceremonial signing of Act 10, Assembly Minority Leader Peter Barca (D-Kenosha) issued the following statement:
“This morning the governor signed a bill behind closed doors stripping away a half-century of Wisconsin workers’ rights and it seemed a fitting end for such a repugnant piece of legislation that passed in such an appalling manner. It’s surprising the governor would host a ceremonial signing to celebrate the gutting of over a half century of worker’s rights this afternoon.
“This legislation ignores the clear will of the people, who have come out overwhelmingly against this bill. Poll after poll has shown that the people of Wisconsin are against the elimination of collective bargaining.
“There is no place for celebration as the rights of teachers, nurses and other workers are erased. This ceremony shows how out of touch Gov. Walker is with the people of this state.
“Walker can celebrate his legislative victory – but we will keep fighting for Wisconsin’s working families until we win the war.”
