Last month “Coffee with Scott” Part 2 took place at the Steaming Cup in Waukesha. Rep. Allen created this initiative to provide a more comfortable atmosphere for constituents to discuss their personal concerns in one-on-one conversations.

The third “Coffee with Scott” will be held on Tuesday, June 20th, from 4:00 P.M. to 5:30 P.M. at Le Caffé Bistro S30W24896 W Sunset Drive in Waukesha. Constituents interested in talking with Rep. Allen about their legislative priorities are asked to schedule a 10-minute time slot by contacting his office. Appointments will be made on a first-scheduled, first served basis. To schedule a meeting, call 608-266-8580, email Rep.Allen@legis.wi.gov, or sign up on Facebook!

Survey Results Part 3

The purpose of the Budget Survey was to gain valuable input from the 97th District citizens. Thank you to those who participated. The budget survey plays an important part in performing my most important function—serving you!

I Asked:

As legislators work on the 2017-2018 budget, what should the top priorities
be? (Please rank in order of preference with #1 being the highest priority.)

You Said:

Update:

The Joint Committee on Finance has yet to take a vote on any of the top three issues: taxes, transportation, and education.

Update:

With transportation being the biggest hot button issue this session, it is no wonder that the Joint Committee on Finance is saving this topic for last.

There are concerns about the long-term effectiveness of the gas tax (or a sales tax on motor fuels) for a number of reasons related to reduced gasoline consumption:

  • Higher fuel efficiency of vehicles
  • Growing urbanization, meaning shorter trips
  • Growing popularity of electric vehicles
  • Growing popularity of ride sharing
We will see how things progress.

Back in April, I released a White Paper regarding how the Department of Transportation (DOT) can more efficiently allocate local, General Transportation Aid (GTA) dollars. You can read the white paper “here.”
