Homeless Legislation Update
Earlier this week, a state Senate committee voted unanimously to advance a bill I authored, which establishes a priority system for homeless individuals to receive Section 8 vouchers. My bill uses common sense to allocate existing funds in the most efficient way. These legislative changes will result in more individuals being able to get the housing and resources support they need to get back on their feet.
The Assembly passed my bill with overwhelming bipartisan support in May of this year. Now that it has passed out of the Senate Committee on Workforce Development, Military Affairs and Senior Issues, I look forward to seeing it approved on the Senate floor and move to Governor Walker’s desk to be signed into law.
Hearings
This week, I had hearings for the Assembly Committee on Environment and Forestry (October 3rd) and the Assembly Committee on Children and Families (October 4th). Because our legislative structure dictates that bills must pass out of committee before they can be heard on the Assembly floor, my seats on these committees require that I make informed and responsible decisions on every vote I take. As bills continue to make their way through committees that I set on, I will continue to take votes that best serve the 92nd district.
Black River Area Oktoberfest
The 11th Annual Black River Area Oktoberfest is happening this weekend at the Animal Arena at the Jackson County Fairgrounds. There will be fun all weekend, with a kick-off party Friday night and beer, food, and activities all day on Saturday. This is a great opportunity to have fun with your family and community – and learn more about Wisconsin’s German roots!
