Madison…A plan to authorize an engineering school at the University of Wisconsin – Green Bay (UWGB) was authorized as part of the 2017 – 19 biennial budget. Representative John Macco (R-Ledgeview), a lead supporter for the new UWGB Engineering School, released the following statement:

“This is, without a doubt, the most transformative part of the 2017-19 biennial budget for Northeast Wisconsin,” said Rep. Macco. “The work currently being done by Chancellor Gary Miller at UWGB and President Raymond Cross at the University of Wisconsin System to transform UWGB into a dynamic university that will empower our future leaders is nothing short of amazing.”

As part of an omnibus motion offered on the University of Wisconsin System, the Board of Regents was given the authority to establish a new Engineering School on UWGB’s campus. The action will jumpstart the project which has been long envisioned by university leadership and the business community.

“This is a strong first step into changing the mindset of ‘The University of Wisconsin at Green Bay’ to a mindset of ‘Green Bay’s University of Wisconsin’,” continued Rep. Macco. “With this new school and the Science, Engineer, Technology and Math Center being built on campus, Green Bay will become the educational and entrepreneurial powerhouse we need in Northeast Wisconsin.”

“I want to thank the members of the Joint Finance Committee for including this authorization in the budget.”
