Madison…Today Governor Scott Walker signed AB 731, the ABLE (Achieving a Better Life Experience) Technical Fix Bill, into law. The bill’s author, Representative John Macco (R-Ledgeview), released the following statement:

“Today has been a long time in the making, and I am excited about the opportunities this bill will afford our disability community in Wisconsin,” said Rep. Macco. “When we first passed the ABLE Act in Wisconsin as part of the 2015-17 budget, we had the goal of getting this valuable tool into the hands of Wisconsin’s disability community as quickly as possible. This bill makes that vision possible.”

ABLE Accounts are tax-advantaged 529-A investment accounts specifically for people with disabilities. Because of changes to national law which now allow people to open accounts in any state, this bill gives the same state income tax advantage to accounts opened by Wisconsinites.

“I thank the disability community and Senator Marklein for working with me in authoring a bill that will give Wisconsinites with disabilities more economic and personal freedom,” continued Rep. Macco. “I also want to thank Governor Walker for recognizing the profound impact of this new tool by signing this bill into law.”
