August is a Great Time to Explore the 87th District

August is a great month to explore the 87th Assembly District.  There are a number of awesome events including one of my favorites, the Lumberjack World Championships (LWC) in Hayward.  The LWC is celebrating its 60th year in 2019 and brings in competitors and spectators from around the world for the "Olympics of the Forest". The event starts today and runs through Saturday at the historic Lumberjack Bowl in Hayward.  If you have the chance over the next few days I encourage you to make the trip to Hayward to check it out. I was in Hayward earlier today and had the chance to stop by for a moment and shoot a quick video. Click on the picture below to watch.

This time of year there is no shortage of county fairs in the district either.  Last weekend was the Taylor County Fair, and the Rusk and Sawyer County Fairs are coming up in August. Each fair has a variety of activities throughout the weekend, such as the Rusk County Rodeo during the Rusk County Fair and the Lions Club Pancake Breakfast each morning during the Sawyer County Fair.

In addition to these great events, here is a list of other events around the 87th District throughout August. Click on each event below to learn more about it.

Work on Highway 40 Improvements Begins August 5th

Work on Highway 40 (WIS 40) between the Rusk County line and US Highway 8 will begin on August 5th. Construction crews will be conducting hot-mix-asphalt resurfacing, pavement marking, and sign installation along the route. During this time, WIS 40 will be reduced to a single 12-foot lane with flagging operations during working hours. Access will be maintained for local residences, private entrances, and side roads. Expect delays along this route and be on the lookout for speed bumps where the existing pavement meets the new asphalt surface. This work is slated for completion by September 2019, depending on weather and construction progress.

Taylor County Fair

Last weekend, I enjoyed getting out to visit the Taylor County Fair. I met several young folks who were showing their animals for the fair. I even got to meet a young man and his calf that would soon be awarded the first place blue ribbon at the fair.

Lublin Days

Over the weekend, I also had the opportunity to head over to Lublin Days. I enjoyed meeting some really great people and hanging out with them at the festival.

Citation for Helene Eleanor Posca

I was pleased to present Helene Posca with a citation from the legislature for her 95th birthday. For the last 68 years in a row, Helene has driven from Saugerties, New York to her hometown of Lublin for the annual Lublin Days celebration, accumulating nearly 204,000 miles in travel. She has a deep love for Lublin, and an energy and spirit about her that I hope to have when I am her age. Happy Birthday, Helene!
