A Note from Rep. Edming

Capitol Fog.jpg
Thank you for taking the time to read this edition of my e-update. I hope you are all transitioning well into the governor's "Safer at Home" order. As of now, the order is set to be lifted on April 24th, but the situation is evolving every second. I encourage you to follow the Wisconsin Department of Health Services website for any updates and changes.

As you can imagine with this unprecedented situation, my office has seen a significant increase in the number of constituent contacts. My staff and I are doing our very best to assist constituents of the 87th Assembly District as quickly as we can.

During this time my physical office in Madison will be closed, but our team at the Legislative Technology Services Bureau has done a great job providing my staff the ability to work from home.  We are still able to receive phone calls and retrieve voicemails and emails, however, our response times may be a bit longer than normal.

Request Your Absentee Ballot

With everything going on with COVID-19 and the governor's "Safer at Home" order, as of this newsletter, the April 7th Wisconsin Spring Election is still a go. There is still time to request your absentee ballot. Voting absentee is a great way to take part in the democratic process while keeping your social distance and remaining healthy during this time.

You can request an absentee ballot through one of these three methods:

1. Go online to request an absentee ballot at www.myvote.wi.gov. This is the easiest method.

2. Use the US mail to request an absentee ballot. Go to https://elections.wi.gov/forms/el-121-english and print off the absentee ballot request form, fill It out, and mail it in. You will need to know your local clerk's contact information as well as enclose a copy of your photo ID with the mail-in request.

3. Request an absentee ballot by emailing or faxing your local clerk.

All absentee ballot requests must be made by Thursday, April 2nd at 5:00 PM for the April 7th election.

Burning Permits Suspended

Around March through May, when the snow has melted and before the grass has greened, people are doing yard clean-up and burning debris. During this time, Wisconsin is at the highest fire risk. As of today, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is suspending all burning permits, which means you cannot burn debris piles in barrels or on the ground, grass, or in wooded areas. Whether you have already obtained a permit or were planning to apply for one, they will be suspended until further notice. By reducing the number of fires, this will help to protect our firefighters and other first responders from further exposure to COVID-19.

Adjusting to "Safer at Home" Order

Earlier this week, I sent out a special e-update to provide information about Governor Evers' "Safer at Home" order. I'm sure everyone is already looking forward to when this order is lifted. Until then, please continue to follow the order and all the other guidelines set forth by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

While we are all living under this order, it's important to maintain a healthy life balance, including self-care, leisure, and work. Many people are looking for ways to adjust, whether it's having the kids at home, working from home, or any of the other changes we have had to make in our daily lives. The most important thing we can do is to try to maintain activity and our life-balance. Find ways to keep yourself busy and don't let TV or other electronics completely fill the void.  Read a book, learn a new recipe, or enjoy the outdoors while practicing social distancing.

Local Restaurant List Now Available

Thank you once again to everyone who has done what they can to support small businesses around the 87th District over the last few weeks.  My office has put together a list of local establishments that are continuing to offer take-out or delivery meals. This list is now available on my website, repedming.com.  You can also find it by clicking hereIf you know of any other bars or restaurants in the 87th Assembly District still open and serving customers through carry-out or delivery services, feel free to let my office know and we will get it added to the list.
