A Note from Rep. Edming

12.18.19 - New Glarus High School Christmas Carols.jpg

Thank you for taking the time to read my final e-update of 2019. Christmas is just around the corner and it is hard to believe that we are beginning a new decade. I look forward to continuing to serve as your state representative in the new year.

I would like to let you know that my legislative office in Madison will be closed next week as my staff spends time with their families for Christmas. We will be back after the New Year, ready to serve the people of the 87th Assembly District.

My staff and I wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Helping Our Farmers

In a previous e-update, I discussed a bipartisan bill I authored that would modify our state's manufacturing and agriculture tax credit (MAC) to help farmers who experience crop loss.

When this credit was created, crop insurance payments were mistakenly left out of the definition of “production gross receipts” which are used to calculate the MAC, even though these payments are considered taxable income.  This means that a farmer who faces crop losses, usually at no fault of their own, may have to pay taxes on the reduced profit, while a farmer who is able to successfully harvest and sell their crop may not.  Assembly Bill (AB) 430 corrects this oversight and I am pleased to share that this important bill received a public hearing earlier this week.  Click here to read the testimony I submitted to the committee.

I hope to see support grow for AB 430 and its Senate companion bill, Senate Bill (SB) 387 in the coming weeks so we can get this bill to help our state's farmers to the governor's desk.

Wreaths Across America

We have Veterans Day in the fall and Memorial Day in the spring, but those in our military make sacrifices for us every day. Many households throughout Wisconsin and the rest of the country have empty seats at the dinner table during the Christmas season due to loved ones who are currently serving or have made the ultimate sacrifice. Last Saturday, December 14th, was National Wreaths Across America Day. To remember the fallen and honor our veterans, I participated in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Ingram Cemetery.
