A Note from Rep. Edming

Christmas truly is the most wonderful time of the year and I hope you have a safe holiday season with friends and family. It's always fun for families to get together with relatives who are visiting from other regions or see college students return home.

As you celebrate Christmas, I ask you to think about those families who will not be together this year because a loved one is serving in the military. My heartfelt gratitude extends to our servicemen and women and their families who sacrifice so much so that we may enjoy freedom.

This Week in Madison

Two of my bills had public hearings this month. Assembly Bill 518 clarifies current statute relating to pumping liquid manure from a farm to a farm field. The bill seeks to address ambiguity within current statute in order to provide local governments with more explicit authority regarding the placement of hoses and in ground pipes in right-of-ways utilized during the transportation of liquid manure. I believe that this bill will lead to monetary savings for both local governments and taxpayers, as road damage caused by trucks will lessen.

Assembly Bill 542 permits the Department of Veteran Affairs to award grants of up to $25,000 to non-profit groups that offer services to veterans and their families. The maximum available funds for the program is $250,000. The grant program uses existing money from the Vet Ed Fund, so this legislation has no fiscal impact upon taxpayers. The grants would assist veterans as they adapt back into civilian life and as they and their families begin to heal from the wounds of war. Possible services include: employment assistance, housing opportunities for the homeless, and medical support for those diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder and other traumatic injuries.

In the 87th District

Earlier this month, I attended a Christmas celebration with members of the Army National Guard.

Have a Wonderful New Year!
