CPR Training

I authored a bill in 2015 which created a requirement for students to learn CPR. The bill passed both Chambers and was signed into law. Here is an article discussing the implementation of the law. Students all across the state are learning CPR and how automated external defibrillators (AED) can be used to help someone undergoing cardiac arrest.

The American Heart Association estimates around 1000 individuals suffer from cardiac arrest outside of hospitals each day within the United States. Of those incidents witnessed by another individual less than half receive CPR prior to EMS arriving. It’s suggested this occurs in part because those individuals witnessing the cardiac arrest lack the proper CPR training. This is problematic because it likely contributes to low survival rates of those suffering from cardiac arrest.

The intent of the bill was to begin training individuals how to perform CPR and use AEDs. Hopefully, with more individuals receiving CPR training we can begin to see the numbers change for the better.

Spring Survey

Survey-2-1024x10241.png

My 2019 Spring Survey is still available to be filled out and submitted online! I’d encourage everyone to fill out the survey at RepJohnSpiros.com and share with me your thoughts regarding the state’s budget. It’s important for me to hear from you how taxpayer funds should be expended. I appreciate all the feedback I’ve received to date!

Updated Revenue Numbers

The Legislative Fiscal Bureau announced our state revenues will be $753 million higher than previously projected. This is based on new revenue numbers and an updated economic forecast. As this is one time money it should not be used for new government spending rather it should be used toward providing tax relief, growing the rainy day fund, or paying down debt.
