Supporting Workforce Readiness

On Wednesday, the Assembly Committee on Workforce Development met for the first time this session to hear testimony about five pieces of legislation that were recently introduced: Assembly Bill (AB) 36, AB 57, AB 13, AB 12 and AB 23. All of the bills centered on one important topic: workforce training. Each one of the bills is geared at making it easier for individuals to engage in workforce training programs, such as internships and apprenticeships.

The committee heard valuable, powerful testimony on the positive impact that these programs have on our young people and nontraditional students that are either enhancing their skills or looking to gain an entirely new skill. What is even more encouraging is the overwhelming support these bills have; the room was filled with individuals and groups from various backgrounds. The trades were represented, as well as schools, business owners, career counselors, students and the Department of Workforce Development. You can watch a recording of the hearing on Wisconsin Eye here.

UW Madison Panel

I was invited to be on a panel on Tuesday evening to talk to UW-Madison students about career development and how I started my career in politics.  I was joined by Senator Kathy Bernier (Lake Hallie) and Representative John Macco (Ledgeview) from the Legislature, along with others working in politics.  I was encouraged by the positive discussions about careers both in politics and outside of politics; it is great to see students involved in government and interested in serving their fellow citizens!

Constituent Spotlight

This week was busy with constituents in Madison; it is so great when individuals and groups come to Madison from the district to advocate for issues that are impacting them every day! In the past week, my staff and I have had the opportunity to meet with folks from the district within the healthcare industry-specifically from both nursing and assisted living facilities; the construction industry; and child services organizations. Below are a few photos from their visits!

Listening to the constituents in the 85th Assembly District remains my top priority, which is why I continue to host monthly office hours. This month, my office hours will be held at Condor Coffee in Weston from 11:00AM to 1:00PM on March 15th!

Additionally, I will be hosting budget listening sessions later this month and next month to hear from constituents about what they would like to see their taxpayer dollars allocated to. A member of the Joint Finance Committee will be joining me during some of those listening sessions, so stay tuned to learn more details!

2017-2018 Blue Books & maps (paper highway maps or laminated maps) are still available in my office!
