In light of recent attacks on the unborn, my Assembly colleagues and I held a press conference this week to discuss our commitment to protecting all lives.  Read more about it below!

 Protecting the unborn

States across our nation have recently launched an attack on the unborn, by allowing an abortion even up until minutes before childbirth. This goes far beyond women's healthcare. While I am discouraged about this news from other states, I am even more disappointed that a similar movement has had traction among legislators in Wisconsin; that is why Assembly republicans held a press conference on Wednesday to affirm our commitment to protecting the unborn. Last session, legislation was introduced by democratic lawmakers in Wisconsin that would allow an abortion at any time during the pregnancy; eliminated the requirement that an abortion be performed by a doctor; and eliminated the requirement for a doctor to have voluntary and informed consent to perform an abortion, along with the elimination of various other regulations on performing and receiving an abortion. Despite the attempted attacks on the lives of unborn children in our state and nation, I promise to continue protecting the rights and lives of the most vulnerable in our state. Prioritizing kids and families

On Thursday, I had the opportunity to meet with the new Secretary of the Department of Children and Families, Emilie Amundson. Previously, Secretary Amundson served as Chief of Staff to Governor Evers during his tenure as State Superintendent. As Chairman of the Committee on Children and Families, I invited Secretary Amundson to discuss her vision and priorities for the department going forward. We had a great discussion about how we can best serve the kids and families in our state! I was encouraged by her open-minded attitude and commitment to working together. Our mutual understanding of the benefits of prevention services indicates the tremendous potential to work together on continuing the positive improvements that have been made for our kids and families.  I am looking forward to working with Secretary Amundson over the next two years, and ensuring that Wisconsin remains a great state to raise a family.
