American Heart Month

IMG_8003.jpg

Public officials and staff from both political parties joined together this week to raise awareness for American Heart Month. Read more about it below!

February is American Heart Month! On Tuesday, legislators, staff and Governor Evers joined together to raise awareness by wearing red. Above, you will see a photo of everyone that came out to bring attention to this worthy cause. Cardiovascular diseases are the number one killer of women in the United States and in Wisconsin. The good news is that many cardiovascular diseases are preventable. By monitoring and improving one's cholesterol (particularly good cholesterol), blood pressure, body mass index, and physical activity, both men and women can significantly reduce their risk of cardiovascular conditions. The American Heart Association's Go Red For Women movement is all about learning one's family history and other risk factors that can increase the chance of getting one of these preventable diseases. This week I had the opportunity to welcome members of the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association to my Capitol office. Andrew and Michael are from Midwest Communications in Wausau, and they visited to discuss topics that are important to allowing them bring news and other programming to their listeners/viewers. I appreciate hearing from constituents that are impacted by the decisions we make in the legislature. Thanks for braving the cold to visit, Andrew and Michael!

Office Hours Graphic.gif

As I mentioned Monday, my office hours that were scheduled on January 28th were canceled due to inclement weather. They have been rescheduled for this Monday, February 4th at 1:00pm. I will still hold them at the Ugly Mug on Monday and we will wrap up around 3:00pm. Come join me for a cup of coffee to warm up from this weather!

Notification Service

Since the 2019-2020 legislative session is now well underway, I want to remind constituents of a neat service that is offered through the Wisconsin State Legislature website, which helps individuals stay informed about topics being addressed in state government. To take part in the notification service, simply create an account with an email address, which is where notifications are sent to, and select the topics that you would like to be notified on. You can select notifications by committee, bill number, author, topic or administrative rule (agency rules that are used to carry out the law). To get started, click here

2017-2018 Blue Books & maps (paper highway maps or laminated maps) are still available in my office! The Wisconsin Blue Book contains information on all things Wisconsin: your elected officials; census information; the official state dog, tree, flower, etc.; government processes; and so much more!
