HESSELBEIN CAPITOL UPDATE

100417 Challenge Academy #1.jpgIt was a privilege to address the Challenge Academy Cadets in the rotunda. It is always inspiring to see them at the Capitol.

How_to_Steal_an_Election_-_Gerrymanderingj.jpgOn October 3rd the United States Supreme Court heard oral arguments on the Gill v. Whitford case regarding partisan gerrymandering. Stay tuned for a decision from the Supreme Court this coming spring.

Deployment.jpgIt’s always a humble experience to be at a deployment. These 30 soldiers leave for Fort Hood for training, and then to the Middle East.

101117 Panfish Tesitmony #24.jpgOctober has been a busy month for committee meetings. I've had meetings for the State Affairs and Natural Resources & Sporting Heritage Committees. These committee meetings are open to the public. Feel free to contact my office if you are interested in attending a committee to testify on a bill and we can help you find the information you need. Otherwise, you can find the schedule for committee meetings here.

german students.jpgI enjoyed meeting with German Exchange students as they toured the Capitol.

Vicky.jpgThank you to Vicky Schroeder, the owner of Red Barn Company Store in Waunakee, for showing me her lovely store. It's located at 114 E. Main Street, and it's a fun place to shop!

Legislative Update

- I am a proud co-sponsor of the recently introduced LRB-4465 prohibiting bump stocks in Wisconsin. This is a response to reports that the gunman in the recent Las Vegas mass shooting had several “bump stocks” in his possession, and might have affixed them to the firearms he used in firing onto a concert crowd of 22,000. While this bill is an important first step, we must continue to push for additional gun safety solutions such as universal background checks which a majority of Americans agree upon.

- Representative Jim Steineke (R-Kaukauna) and Senator Roger Roth (R-Appleton) introduced LRB-4115/1 & LRB-4410/1 for co-sponsorship. This legislation eliminates all state protections for non-federal wetlands. I can assure you I will not be co-sponsoring this legislation and I have major concerns about the impact this proposal will have on our environment. Allowing developers to fill non-federal wetlands without a permit is not only a bad idea, it once again takes Wisconsin backward.
