State Representatives Subeck and Zamarripa Call for a Public Hearing on Divestment From Contributors to Trump's Wall

May 11, 2017

MADISON – Today, State Representatives Lisa Subeck (D-Madison) and JoCasta Zamarripa (D-Milwaukee) sent a letter to Representative Rob Hutton, Chairperson of the Assembly Committee on Government Accountability and Oversight, requesting that the committee schedule a public hearing on AB 273. The bill would prohibit the State of Wisconsin from investing in companies that enter into a contract to build President Trump’s proposed border wall.

“Immigrants play a vital role in our great state’s economy.  Without immigrants, agriculture, hospitality, and numerous other industries would be crippled,” said Rep. Zamarripa. “President Trump’s border wall would have serious economic ramifications for our state and country. The State of Wisconsin should not be funding a haphazard plan that will only hurt us in the long run.”

“Xenophobia and hatred have no place in Wisconsin, and it is wrong for businesses to profit from divisiveness and bigotry,” added Rep. Subeck. “We are proud to stand in solidarity with immigrant communities and recognize the tremendous value of their contributions to our state.  Diversity is one of our country’s greatest strengths and should always be encouraged, never feared.”
