REP. SUBECK BACKS GOVERNOR EVERS’S CALL FOR SPECIAL SESSION TO ENACT GUN SAFETY LAWS

(Madison)  - Today, State Representative Lisa Subeck (D-Madison) applauded Governor Tony Evers’s executive order calling for a special session in November on legislation to address gun violence.

Rep. Subeck released the following statement regarding the Governor’s call for legislative action on universal background checks for firearms and extreme risk protection orders.

“I applaud Governor Evers’s decision to call the Legislature a special session of the Legislature to enact commonsense gun safety reforms. Universal background checks and extreme risk protection orders have widespread support among Wisconsin residents. It is time that Republicans in the Legislature stop standing in the way of the will of the people to keep our communities safe.”

“Gun violence plagues our state and nation, posing a threat to all of our neighborhoods, schools, and communities. The first step to bipartisan action on this serious public safety concern is to heed the Governor’s special session call to enact commonsense laws that keep guns out of the hands of dangerous individuals intent to do harm.”
