Governor Walkers Election Year Gimmick Wastes Taxpayer Dollars and Harms Vulnerable Working Families

April 10, 2018

MADISON – Today, State Representative Lisa Subeck (D – Madison), ranking Democratic member on the Assembly Committee on Public Benefit Reform, issued the following statement in response to Governor Walker signing 9 special session bills into law that chip away at the safety net for Wisconsin’s most vulnerable families while costing taxpayers over $85 million annually and millions more in start-up costs.

“Wisconsin families are working hard every day yet continue living paycheck to paycheck, struggling to make ends meet. Instead of helping hardworking families get ahead, Governor Walker is enacting legislation that will only make their lives harder. The Governor is all too willing to waste millions of taxpayer money on an election year gimmick to rile up his base by demonizing low-wage workers, and in the end, it is struggling families who will suffer for it.”
