Representative Lisa Subeck (D-Madison) issued the following statement in response to the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision not to review lower court rulings on Wisconsin’s Voter I.D. law.

“I am disappointed in the Supreme Court’s decision not to address what states can and cannot do to limit voter participation.”

“While there is some consolation in the Attorney General’s recognition that this decision has come too close to the April 7 spring election date for implementation in the upcoming election, there is no consolation for the students, senior citizens, low-income, and minority voters who will likely be disenfranchised in future elections because they lack the required state-issued photo I.D. cards.”

“Wisconsin’s Voter I.D. law is nothing more than a mean-spirited attempt by Republicans to keep those least favorable to their own candidates away from the polls.”
