Representative Lisa Subeck: Statement on AB 234, AB 235, AB 236, and AB 237

April 20, 2017

MADISON – Representative Lisa Subeck (D-Madison) released the following statement regarding an anemic package of Republican bills passed by the Assembly Committee on Public Benefit Reform under the guise of addressing homelessness.

“Republicans are fooling themselves if they believe they can address homelessness without tackling its root causes. Yet, they offer nothing to address the core issues of housing affordability or economic insecurity, nor do they consider the many other factors that contribute to homelessness.

Republicans fail to offer new resources or invest in evidence based solutions. The time is now to expand the availability of affordable housing, increase wages, and ensure economic security – all key ingredients to ending and preventing homelessness.

Democrats remain committed to keeping people in their homes and off the streets by investing in evidence based approaches like Housing First, Rapid Rehousing, and homelessness prevention, coupled with increasing wages, expanding Family Medical Leave, and providing access to healthcare.”
