Representative Lisa Subeck Praises Withdrawal of Half-Baked Long-Term Care Plan

June 10, 2016

MADISON – Representative Lisa Subeck (D-Madison) released the following statement regarding the Department of Health Services announcement today that they will withdraw their plan to change Wisconsin's long-term care system.

“I commend the advocates who spoke out and worked to stop the proposed Republican changes to Wisconsin’s long-term care system. Since this idea emerged from the budget, I have heard from hundreds of my elderly and disabled constituents worried about the impact these changes would have had on their well-being.

I am pleased that the Department of Health Services is withdrawing their plans to dismantle long-term care as we know it, though it is unfortunate they caused such a panic for those dependent upon long-term care services. This debacle is the result of Governor Walker and the Republicans’ determination to fix a system that is not broken by putting into place a half-baked plan that would hand over long-term care to out-of-state for-profit insurance companies.”
